Missionaries in Formation: Living Their Vocation Together

missionnaires en formation ensemble en vivant leur vocation

In our multivocational community, each member follows a formation pathway tailored to their specific vocation and type of belonging. Here, we present in detail the formation pathway for missionaries and missionaries of common life, who choose to live in community under consecrated celibacy

Basic Formation
This period begins after the candidate is admitted to the Community and is divided into two stages:

  • The Discipleship Stage
During this phase, the candidate deepens their self-knowledge, grows in human and spiritual values, and immerses themselves in the spirit of the evangelical counsels. They become familiar with the Constitutions and specific rules of the Community to better understand its charism, spirituality, and mission within the Church. The duration, rights, duties, and objectives of this stage are defined in the Formation Regulations.
  • The Choice Stage
This is the stage where the candidate consolidates their vocational identity and prepares for temporary incorporation. It is a crucial phase for forming the heart and adopting the mindset of Christ, through ascetic practice and prayer. This stage takes place in a designated house, allowing the candidate to fully integrate the missionary vocation.

Temporary Bond of Belonging
After the Choice Stage, if deemed suitable, the candidate is admitted to temporary incorporation. This temporary bond is renewed annually until the candidate can make their definitive commitment, which requires a minimum of three years and a maximum of nine years. During this time, the formation team closely supports the candidate, providing opportunities for apostolic experiences and fostering personal and vocational growth.

Ongoing Formation
Once the definitive commitment is made, the formation does not end. Ongoing formation is a commitment for both the individual member and the Community to grow in fidelity to the charism. Its purpose is to promote holiness and provide continuous development in the human, cultural, spiritual, and pastoral dimensions. The Community offers resources to help each missionary deepen their vocation and mission in the world.

Theological Formation
A fundamental aspect of the formation for missionaries of common life is theological education. The Community encourages every missionary to dedicate time to the study of theology to serve with a solid foundation of doctrinal and spiritual knowledge.

Conclusion
The formation pathway for missionaries of common life is a challenging but profoundly enriching journey. It prepares missionaries to fully live their vocation, rooted in Christ and at the service of the Gospel.
